A
successful Academy graduate is a successful officer. And no officer in
the Air Force can succeed without the ability to lead others effictively
and decisively. Throughout the Academy experience, Cadets are given the
opportunity to not only learn these skills, but to practice them in a
real military environment.
Every Cadet begins the Academy journey with Basic Cadet Training (BCT).
It’s a rigorous and challenging few weeks that will put their mind,
body and resolve to the test. But every Cadet emerges stronger, more confident,
and ready for the next four years of their lives.
This is where leadership is learned and practiced. A series of programs,
classes and activities will gradually build the leadership skills expected
of officers in the Air Force – and Cadets at the Academy.
This structured, four-year program allows Cadets to put their leadership
abilities to work in military situations and as leaders among their peers
at the Academy.
As one would expect, there are many opportunities for our Cadets to
take flight. Each Cadet is enrolled in a SOARING course where they will
pilot unpowered gliders. There are also opportunities to become a licensed
pilot, learn to skydive and more. About half of all Academy graduates
go on to become Air Force pilots.
